Premiered in April 1994, the fourth generation Quattroporte was more or less a stretched-out, four-door version of its predecessor - the Maserati Biturbo. Initially powered by the same twin-turbocharged V6 engine found in the Maserati Ghibli and later on with the new 3.2 litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine from the Maserati Shamal.
The design kept the same wedge shapes from the Shamal and Biturbo, and, instead of the four squared headlights on its predecessor, it featured new horizontal rectangular headlights.

It was smaller and more aerodynamic than other Maseratis and featured the designer Gandini’s trademark angular rear wheel arch design.
The interior was luxurious with its elegant leather-clad interior, wood veneers on the dash and door panels, and the installation of the signature Maserati oval analogue clock in the centre of the dashboard. All of these features combined with the comfortable seats really set this generation of the Quattroporte high above the rest.
The performance of the fourth generation Quattroporte was comparable to that of a GranTurismo with its choice of V6 or V8 engine providing between 284 hp and 336 hp with top speeds of up to 162 mph.
Production ran from 1994 until 2001, with later models benefiting from the Ferrari-led “Evoluzione” update that improved reliability and build quality. Unique to this generation was the 2.0-litre twin-turbo V6, offered exclusively for the Italian market to comply with strict tax rules.
